After a tragic car accident near Pensacola, Florida late last July, mothers of the two teenage fatalities came to identify the bodies of their daughters, only to find that their daughters had been switched, that one had been used as an organ donor
against her wishes and the other, who had wished to be an organ donor, was not. Cited in the lawsuit are the Florida Highway Patrol, local officials, and the two separate funeral homes from which the bodies were misidentified.
According to the lawsuits, the local medical examiner released the wrong bodies to the wrong funeral homes, which embalmed the wrong bodies without authorization… The lawsuits were filed by the Gibson and Cooks families in Escambia County Circuit Court. Both demand a jury trial. No trial date has been scheduled.
