Opioid Recovery Under COVID-19

Florida Opioid Lawsuit / Altamonte Springs Orlando Oviedo Attorneys / Wrongful Death Lawyers / Beers and Gordon P.A.One of the lesser known, or at least less considered challenges of social distancing is that anyone dealing with recovery, those who took time each week, sometimes multiple times a week, to attend a group meeting where they could discuss their challenges and be honest, have now lost access to their lifelines, at least for the time being. This past week, NPR spoke with a number of addiction specialists trying to find ways of working with patients in quarantine, but conceded that the act of being quarantined has its own consequences for many:

Doing so may increase feelings of depression and anxiety among people in recovery — and those are underlying causes of drug and alcohol use and addiction.

On its own, said one doctor, addiction is a “disease of isolation,” and now those dealing with their addictions may be less inclined to reach out and find the kind of support that can pull them from their isolation.
