While it’s true that Thursday was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, a recognition of nearly one million local officers across the country who serve their communities, the hardest part about having a day like this is that average citizens in more populated areas like Central Florida aren’t sure where to start when it comes to offering thanks.
Do you flag down a patrol car? Do you chase down a cruiser? Of course not.
Here are a few easy ways to say thanks.
1. Email your local police department with a sentence or two or ten. Share something of encouragement, a story about how they made an impact or a time you attended an event and they ensured the venue was safe.
2. Share positive stories on social media, not just on a particular day, but on all days when you see something worth sharing.
3. Encourage students to thank and interact with their resource officers on a more frequent basis. These are the men and women who protect our kids and our schools.
