The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has been a leader in tracking advancements in technology as it relates to improving our way of life as human beings. And in the midst of COVID-19, IEEE is changing the timeline on self-driving cars
and their progress.
According to an article posted today, IEEE says that a number of well known self-driving car companies have had to suspend every test that involved a human driver, which hinders their ability to acquire the data necessary for setting up “faster and smarter” algorithms. In the end, a perfect world in which autonomous vehicles move passengers all around the globe has now not only been delayed, but predictions are, as they say, “all over the map.”
One forecast had shared autonomous vehicles driving just 20 percent of all miles driven in 2040, while another model forecast them handling 70 percent of all miles driven by 2035.
