As Americans take time this weekend to acknowledge Veterans Day, one of the tremendous gifts that our veterans provide is a lasting look at the best humanity can be when faced with adversity. Simon Sinek, a well known public speaker, took time recently to compare the qualities of military servicemen with that of good leaders.
“I’ve had the great honor,” said Sinek, “of getting to meet some of these, who we would call heroes, who have put their lives at risk to save others. And I ask them ‘Why would you do it?’ ‘Why did you do it?’ And they all say the same thing. ‘Because they would have done it for me.”
Veterans are the reason we feel safe within the boundaries of our own country. Veterans are the reason we can lay our head down on a pillow at night without worrying about the threats of other nations. Veterans are the reason we have the freedom to live as we do.
