St. Patrick’s Day has never cracked the Top Ten list of favorite holidays celebrated in the United States (hard to compete with the likes of Christmas, Thanksgiving, or the Fourth of July), but it does rank fourth on a list of biggest drinking holidays. And according to a 2015 study, an alcohol-related crash ends in a fatality every 72 minutes on St. Patrick’s Day. So asking readers to be careful is an understatement.
In the same year of that study, it was estimated that 37 million people had plans to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at a bar or a restaurant, consuming 13 million pints of Guinness. So if you are among this group and you are unable to arrange a designated driver, consider any number of travel alternatives ranging from Uber to an old fashioned taxi. For the sake of all our fellow Central Florida drivers and passengers, enjoy St. Patrick’s Day, but know your limits and stay off the road.
