National Bike to Work Day

National Bike to Work Day / Bicycle Accident Attorneys / Oviedo Lawyers / Beers and Gordon P.A.Friday will officially be known as National Bike to Work Day, but throughout the month of May, believe it or not, many have been taking up the challenge throughout Central Florida. Back on May 5, the City of Orlando scheduled a Bike to Work event that unfortunately got rained out. Then on May 8, the City of Winter Park urged residents to join an afternoon ride. So if you’re thinking about dusting off a bicycle seat and heading to work, consider a few friendly safety tips:

  • If you haven’t ridden your bike for a while, consider it wise to check the quality of the brakes and the tires. The initial ride might be fine, but time tends to cause degradation.
  • Avoid being erratic. Motor vehicle drivers have the difficult task of trying to avoid you at a higher speed, so be careful to stay on the straight and narrow.
  • Honor the legal restraints of every other driver on the road. If there is a stop sign, that sign is just as much yours as it is the driver of an SUV. Same goes for lights and lanes.
  • Enjoy the weather and wear a helmet.
